Dallas is a cultural hub and is one of the most exciting cities in Texas. If you like warm weather, outdoor activities, dining, entertainment, and more, then there’s something for you in Dallas! AKA, there’s something for everyone. Considering a move? We’re breaking down the top things you need to know about this exciting city.

Statistics

Located in northern Texas, Dallas is a large metropolitan area with a population of about 1.3M people. It’s the third-largest city in the state and borders several major suburbs. The city itself can be divided into a few regions: Central Dallas, East Dallas, and South Dallas. Each area has something different to offer.

Weather

Dallas is known for its long summers and typically mild winters, but you’ll experience the entire spectrum of seasonal weather in this four-season city, which provides a little bit of everything from balmy spring evenings to a few touches of frosts.

Real Estate

While there are certainly options above and below, people tend to flock to Dallas for the large amounts of land and space that come at this price point. Combining a sweeping urban sprawl with plenty of lands to stretch out, Dallas provides the best of both worlds. Live in a gleaming, upscale condo or a countryside escape — the choice is yours.

Neighborhoods

Where you choose to live in Dallas depends on how you want to live. Working closely with a real estate agent like Brad Coffman can help ensure you choose the right location for your lifestyle. Let’s explore a few of the city’s neighborhoods.

Downtown

Dallas’ thriving Downtown is the city’s bustling, uptempo epicenter. With a booming job market, an abundance of shops and eateries, and a plethora of parks and green spaces, this neighborhood is perfect for anyone who wants to have everything they need at their fingertips and craves on-the-go living.

Highland Park

Highland Park’s perch above downtown is one of the most esteemed neighborhoods in Dallas. This inviting enclave tends to attract families with an appreciation for the finer things. With a plethora of shopping destinations, award-winning public schools, and an overarching sense of serenity, it’s no wonder why people love to call Highland Park home.

Lakewood

When living in Lakewood, peacefulness is in the palm of your hand. On the shore of White Rock Lake, Lakewood is a spacious, family-oriented neighborhood that is a tranquil oasis well within reach of Downtown’s amenities.

University Park

University Park is a lovely, upscale neighborhood, dominated by Southern Methodist University. There’s an old-fashioned feel to the area, which is separated from the hustle and bustle, but easy to access from Dallas’ most metropolitan parts. Residents spend time shopping at Snyder Plaza, whose many shops and classic restaurants contribute to the neighborhood’s old-fashioned feel. The schools are also excellent here, boosting the local appeal for families.

Dining

Dallas is teeming with amazing restaurants, ranging from casual to fine dining. To live here is to always have places to meet friends and family. Located in the Ritz-Carlton, Fearing’s Restaurant serves up unbeatable Southwestern cuisine from the esteemed chef, Dean Fearing. The bar is fantastic and boasts a large menu of craft cocktails. If you love Old Western saloons but want a more modern option, then check out Billy Can Can. Fancy cocktails and a range of luxurious steaks, chops, and more make for a classic dining experience.

If part of your desire to move south is inspired by your love of BBQ, then you need to check out Pecan Lodge. This mid-range restaurant has taken the Dallas BBQ scene by storm, serving up juicy smoked meat, alongside fried chicken, mac’n cheese, collard greens, and more. Go in hungry and leave having experienced the best in Dallas BBQ!

Nightlife

Dallas’ young demographic makes for a fun nightlife scene, from a dive bar to a refined cocktail bar, and everything in between. Double Wide Bar has beer, cocktails, and live music, which makes for a fun atmosphere. If you enjoy elevated mixed drinks, then Parliament — with over 100 craft cocktails — is the spot for you. If locally-brewed beers are your jam, then you’ll love the selection at The Rustic.

To Do

One of the reasons people love Dallas is its blend of the big city and beautiful nature. There’s no shortage of green spaces here, thanks to sites like the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. With over 66 acres, the Arboretum wows visitors with its beautiful florals, gardens, and views. You’re guaranteed to see beauty throughout all four seasons.

Art lovers enjoy visiting the Dallas Museum of Art, which has a collection of over 22,000 pieces. With outdoor sculptures, as well as pieces from around the globe, there’s no shortage of things to take in. There are also several activities and camps for children, as well as events and lecture series for adults. Consider becoming a member!

Shopping is a major attraction here, thanks to the city’s impressive range of both luxury and affordable retailers. Highland Park Village boasts some of the most impressive luxury shopping in the entire country, with its beautiful architecture and high-end shops. Galleria Dallas is one of the best-known options, thanks to its famous ice skating center, global dining options, and fabulous shops. The Galleria also hosts memorable holiday events, which are fun for the entire family!

Outdoor adventurers also find plenty to keep them busy in Dallas, thanks to the area’s varied terrain. Piedmont Ridge has some decent inclines but is manageable for families with varied abilities. At Oak Cliff Meadow Preserve, you have your pick of eight miles of hiking and biking trails, which span over 121 acres of wildflower meadows and woodlands. Some other nearby options include Santa Fe Trail and Trinity River Audubon Center.

White Rock Lake also provides hours of water entertainment! Rent kayaks or paddleboards at White Rock Paddle Co. for a day on the lake. The views of Dallas from the water are some of the best the city has to offer.
